Blues dancing is a collection of dances from what is called African American vernacular dance. W.C. Handy wrote some of the first published blues songs and in 1905 documented seeing and hearing blues dancing. As blues music gained popularity, so did the variety of movements danced to the blues. Todays blues dancing is a combination of one step, two step, slow drag, swing type arm leads as well as the fishtail, grind and Ball in the Jack along with many other dance moves. Currently, blues dancing is experiencing a resurgence.
